The Unforgiven......... An Apology - 07/06/2008
22:15 - 06/07/2008
An unfortunate set of circumstances throughout June started with the long awaited appearance of the Unforgiven at the Attic being cancelled at the eleventh hour, or rather at 18.00 hours, a member of the band being unable to appear due to some unforeseen personal circumstances. Both the band themselves and WAG Promotions tried in vain to find replacements but to no avail, so we can only apologise to those that made their way to the venue expecting one of the best bands around to make their weekend, we certainly were!
Our best wishes go out to Rob, we will try and match up some dates in the New Year and The Unforgiven will no doubt be forgiven when everyone gets to hear them.
For those that have found us rather quiet through June, following the Unforgiven cancellation we had a band, who shall remain nameless, double book us which forced us to push the second gig of the month to the 28th which proved incredibly difficult to fill due to band holidays and weddings etc etc. This also coincided with both the webmasters and Cols hols and Dirty Beard did not get the publicity they deserved.
So June was a trying month but we are back at full speed kicking off with 3 Legged Cat, a band not to be missed if you are serious about live music.
Check out the bands set to appear between now and Christmas and you will see some class acts that we have managed to attract to The Attic including the likes of The Steve French Band, Ovacast, Do$ch and The Hummingbirds Blues Band, this does not mean for one minute that the others are not at the top of their tree, we would not allow it. Come and see them all and support your live music venue
See you soon.
The guys at WAG Promotions.
Electric Hazard - 24/05/2008
17:47 - 30/05/2008
24th May 2008, Electric Hazard – The ‘Attic’, Boot &Shoe, Whitwell.
On the night, the boys from Barlbro’ had to vie for attention with Ricky Hatton and the Eurovision Song Contest. To mix it and beat the Hitman Hatton would have been difficult, Eurovision, in the end, proved not to be a contest as the Attic crowd responded to Hazards’ familiar Indie Rock tunes spread over a less familiar 3 sets.
The guys claimed to have something for everyone on the menu and indeed they were as good as their word, the Rifles, Fratellis and Libertines mixed with Free, Sweet and the Rolling Stones adding just a pinch of their self penned stuff which, with credit, didn’t spoil the taste and indeed added to the recipe.
Dom Stones voice is cut out for Indie Rock and the local accents certainly helped when the band were at their best, doing justice to the Sheffield Pop Poets the Arctic Monkeys’ When the Sun Goes Down and Dance Floor, a tribute band in the making may be? The floor fillers were Blurs’ Song 2, Arctic Monkeys, Teddy Picker, Place Your Hands and perhaps obviously the Oasis anthem Don’t Look Back in Anger had everyone joining in.
If Indie is your bag then look out for these guys and you will no doubt get a good nights entertainment.

Twin Lizzy - 10/05/2008
23:07 - 20/05/2008
WHITWELL ROCKED and it wasn’t the quarry! It was Twin LIZZY – The Boys were back!
As the first chords from Lizzy’s spearhead twin guitars were struck the 170 strong crowd were transported back to a time when hair was big, rock was king and Phil Lynott and the boys held court.
All night, Taff and Steve T exchanged riffs as Gorham and Robertson had done before them and the bass driven rhythms of Rog and Steve W held it all together in a no nonsense unforgiving way that Lynott and Downey would have no doubt approved of. In true Lizzy fashion the fans were not allowed to draw breath as classic after classic was forced through the stacks, Bad Reputation, Emerald, South Bound, Rosalie, Waiting for an Alibi, Black Rose, Dancing in the Moonlight, it was relentless and everyone revelled in the nostalgia, arms were held aloft, the crowd bayed for more and on it went. Cowboy Song – howooooo! brought the house down, the Clowne boys got riffs from their Dog bottles, the guys from Edwinstowe made the floor and still Lizzy had more to offer, Warrior, Lynotts homage to Hendrix, Jonny the Fox on they went.
The guys left the stage to rapturous applause following a mammoth encore, ending a night that those that had come to see them would remember for a time to come and would no doubt reflect that a show of such quality, and the memories of a fantastic band that it stirred, were well worth the entrance fee.
WAG Promotions would like to thank all the members of Twin Lizzy including Tony on the desk, Graham and website Steve for all the efforts in making the night such a resounding success, what the punters do not see are the hours and hours that the guys put in to pull it all together, they are great to work with, down to earth and are as professional in their stage set up as they are musically. Cheers guys, it was a pleasure, hopefully we can do it again sometime.
